Primo Dollars The Blaq God, a.k.a. Marty MacFly (born Karim Rothwell)
Primo Dollars The Blaq God, a.k.a. Marty MacFly (born Karim Rothwell), is an American conscious hip-hop/soul musician from Cordele, Georgia. As a child, MacFly excelled musically and academically. In grammar school, he learned to read sheet music, play piano, and play tenor saxophone. He was in several scholastic programs including Beta Club, PRISM, Talent Search, and RIMS. He went on to earn three college degrees including a bachelor’s degree from Florida State University and later became a respiratory therapist. Drawn to political and revolutionary activists, such Mumia Abu-Jamal and Mutulu Shakur (step-father of Tupac), MacFly often draws on their influence in his unusual lyrical style that he has become known for. He also draws influence from his father, a multi-hand drummer and lover of funk and Cuban music. Primo began audio recording after relentless pressure from his youngest brother, Fetty Cash. Along with their brother, Daruddone, they formed the group Trapville Pyrates, later known as Blaq Pyrates. Later, Primo teamed up with artist Jonny Papez and started the duo “Primo and Papez” which was a co-act alongside the Blaq Pyrates. MacFly then returned exclusively to the group bringing Papez as an additional member. From there, Primo and his two brothers founded the independent record label Blaq Pyrate Nation, LLC. MacFly then went on to form two publishing companies, Blaq Pyrate Nation Publishing Company and Blaq Pyrate Nation International in order to self-publish the group’s music. Recently, he has begun teaching himself to play electric, acoustic, and bass guitar as well as co-producing exclusive beats for the group.
